Ernijs Ansons and Kristers Zeidaks both hail from Latvia and both have fit in as parts of the Grand Valley State basketball team this season. Kelly Hill of the Grand Rapids Press has a feature on their transition:

“Both players are adjusting well,” (coach Ric) Wesley said. “Ernie had a head start since he was here last year. Both are outstanding athletes and have a great deal of basketball experience. Ernijs is a versatile perimeter player who can do a lot of things. He is one of our strongest ball-handlers and a tenacious defender.

“Kristers is a great athlete, who is a highflyer but also an excellent shooter for a big player. Our team has done a good job of making them feel welcome.”

Kristers, a forward, is averaging 9.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Ansons, a guard, is averaging two points in about 14 minutes per game.

University of Detroit also features two international teammates who hail from the same country this season.
