Holland Christian’s Kyle Steigenga has NBA-level advice just a phone call away

The last name ‘Steigenga’ should be a familiar one to people who have followed basketball in Michigan over the years — Matt Steigenga won the 1988 Mr. Basketball Award after a standout career at Grand Rapids South Christian. Now another Steigenga — Matt’s nephew Kyle Steigenga — is making a name for himself on the west side of the state as a junior at Holland Christian. Alan Babbitt of the Holland Sentinel wrote about Kyle’s relationship with his uncle:
The promising Holland Christian junior enjoys his uncle’s company much more than anything that goes on the court, though.
“I am pretty close to him. I just try to see him and hang out with him when I can,” Kyle said, referring to Matt Steigenga. “I don’t really talk with him about basketball that much.”
Steigenga scored 31 points in Holland Christian’s season-opener last week.
