Javontae Ford is WHAC Player of the Week

Davenport junior forward Javontae Ford is the first Player of the Week of the season in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). From the news release:

 In Davenport’s 72-57 win over No. 23 Southern Oregon, Ford finished with nine points, four rebounds and a steal to help the Panthers into the championship game of the Mitsubishi/KIA Shootout.

In the finals against host and No. 16 ranked Embry Riddle, Ford posted 21 points and eight rebounds to grab MVP honors. Late in the game, Ford hit two of his game high four three-pointers to give the Panthers the lead for good.

So far in 2012-13, Ford leads Davenport in scoring average at 14.6 points per game and rebounding hauling in 7.2 per contest. The red-shirt junior will lead the Panthers into their WHAC opener on Saturday when they welcome in Marygrove College to the Student Center for a 3pm tip.

Ford, who has previously won the Player of the Week award three times, was an All-American last season.
