The John R. Wooden Award, which is the top individual award in college basketball, announced its top 50 preseason players this week as voted on by the college basketball media. Four players at Michigan schools made the list — Michigan‘s Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr., Michigan State‘s Keith Appling and University of Detroit‘s Ray McCallum. Here’s more on the award from the news release:

The Big 10 leads all conferences with nine selections to the Preseason Top 50, followed by the Big East with seven and the ACC and SEC each with six. The Big 12 has five selections, the Pac-12 boasts four, the West Coast Conference has three, and the Mountain West has two picks. Conference USA, Horizon, Missouri Valley, Mid-American, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Summit and Sun Belt each have one honoree.

This is the second time McCallum and Hardaway Jr. have made the list. This also represents more evidence that the state of Michigan is home to three of the best point guard prospects in the country.
