Former Goodrich assistant basketball coach Dave Barns, 30, passed away this weekend after a nearly 2-year fight with cancer. Barns, the son of Goodrich coach Gary Barns, was an inspiration to the entire basketball community in Michigan. I didn’t know David well, other than a few pleasant interactions when I covered Goodrich basketball games for the Flint Journal on occasion. He was always extremely pleasant and helpful, always helping me wrangle players after games so I could get postgame quotes.
