Warren De La Salle coach inducted into BCAM Hall of Fame
October 17, 2012 in High School
Longtime Warren De La Salle coach Greg Esler was inducted into the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) Hall of Fame Oct. 7. Jared Purcell of MLive caught up with Esler to talk about the honor:
“It’s not all about wins and losses,” Esler said. “I like to win as much as the next guy but really it’s about building relationships.”
In the last week, it was made clear to Esler that he had done a great job of building relationships with many players, coaches and families over the years. Once the Hall of Fame announcement was made, the congratulatory messages came pouring in.
“I got tons of emails and calls from former players and coaches that I had coached with,” Esler said. “Even coaches that I coached against. That was flattering, to say the least.”
Esler, who has a 421-175 career record, told Purcell that he sees himself coaching at least five more years and possibly longer.
