Poll: Should high school basketball have a shot clock?
October 11, 2012 in High School
East Lansing coach Steve Finamore posted this note on his blog after listening to Michigan State coach Tom Izzo speak at the annual BCAM Coaches Clinic last week:
Over the weekend at the BCAM Coaches Clinic the shot clock in high school basketball came up during a discussion.
Tom Izzo of Michigan State mentioned that it would be a good idea and I have heard other basketball people say the same.
Here in Michigan, we do not have the shot clock.
Like everything else in society, we all have different opinions. The same can be said for putting in a shot clock.
To me, it doesn’t matter. The game is in great shape. In our league, teams do not sit on the ball; we play. Matter of fact, we would not need a shot clock because we push the ball and look to score quickly.
Finamore also notes the reality of the situation — cost an placement in high school gyms are complex factors that make it hard to simply insist that high school basketball use a shot clock in Michigan.
But practical arguments aside, I figured it was a good opportunity to let readers weigh in. Vote in the poll below.

We should have a 40 second shot clock.
