Tom Izzo on Mateen Cleaves: “Once he has your back, he is a rock for you”

Former Flint Northern and Michigan State star Mateen Cleaves was recently honored with the Patrick J. McGinnis Community Hero Award by the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Flint for his work with youth in the Flint area and, via the Flint Journal’s Josh Gordon, Tom Izzo came to the ceremony:
“(Cleaves) is my favorite guy of all time for the things he has done for me and the program and he has been an icon in the state, too,” Izzo said. “He is still one of the greatest winners there has ever been at Michigan State and he cares about people probably as much, or more than, anybody. Once he has your back, he is a rock for you.”
