Two basketball greats who played at Michigan State are among this year’s nominees for potential enshrinement in the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame.

Steve Smith, a former Detroit Pershing standout who played 14 NBA seasons, and Mateen Cleaves, a former Flint Northern star who played six NBA seasons and also played professionally abroad, are among the nominees receiving consideration this year. Flint native Pam McGee, one of the top female basketball players of all-time and the mother of NBA player JaVale McGee, is also a nominee.

According to the Lansing State Journal, the final class will probably be decided in mid-October. Fans also have a say in the process. Voting is open here until Oct. 5.
