Keith Benson officially on Atlanta Hawks training camp roster
September 28, 2012 in Professional
Former Oakland University standout big man Keith Benson is officially on the Atlanta Hawks training camp roster. Benson, a second round pick of the Hawks last year who was cut in training camp and spent time in the D-League, performed well in the Summer League in July, earning the invite back to camp.
The Hawks have 13 guaranteed contracts on their roster already. Kris Willis of Peach Tree Hoops looked at the roster makeup:
Atlanta has 13 players with guaranteed contracts counting Mike Scott’s deal that is partially guaranteed. The contracts of James Anderson, Keith Benson, Damion James, Carldell Johnson and Anthony Tolliver are not guaranteed. The Hawks can carry up to 15 players on their regular season roster. Last season Ivan Johnson came to camp on a non-guaranteed deal and won a spot on the roster.
Benson will essentially be fighting for one of two available spots on the team, assuming the Hawks elect to carry the maximum number of players (some teams leave a roster spot or two open as a cost-savings measure).
