Former Grand Valley player Callistus Eziukwu not going to Ukraine after all

Earlier this month, it was reported that former Grand Valley State center Callistus Eziukwu had signed with a team in the Ukraine. According to EuroBasket, though, the team has changed its mind:

MBC Mykolaiv decided to split ways with Callistus Eziukwu (208-F/C-85, college: Grand Valley St.). The centre has been on a try-out with the team and Mykolaiv decided not to sign a full-time contract with the player.

Callistus Eziukwu spent the previous season in Poland. He played for AZS Koszalin. The centre notched 10.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.6 blocks per game in PLK. He earned All-Polish League Honourable Mention. Previously Callistus Eziukwu had stints in Estonia, Mexico, Turkey and France. He was named All-Baltic League Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. He was also trumped All-Mexican CIBACOPA Forward of the Year in 2010. Callistus Eziuwku was also named All-Turkish TB2L Defensive Player of the Year in 2010.

The unfortunate part of international basketball is how quickly teams can change their mind and how competitive roster spots are for import players. With his 6-foor-11 size and shot-blocking pedigree, however, it’s a good bet Eziuwku will catch on somewhere else soon if he hasn’t already found another opportunity.
