Flint Northern’s Richie Lewis transfers to prep school
August 17, 2012 in High School
A strong senior class in the Flint area just got a little less so with news that Flint Northern‘s Richie Lewis will play his final high school season at Flora Macdonald Academy in Red Springs, N.C.
Eric Woodyard of the Flint Journal reported the news:
“I feel like if I go to prep school, then I’m going to play against better competition with people who are going to be on a Division I level that will make me better,” said Lewis. “Going somewhere else different will help me start the college process early a little bit, with all of the work that we put in the gym and knowing the coaches will be on you every minute of the day.”
There is recruiting interest in Lewis from several Mid-Major programs. I certainly like seeing kids stay at the high schools they start out at, but with the state of Flint schools, it’s hard to argue when kids leave, particularly athletes like Lewis, who are attracting Division I interest. Lewis is a Division I caliber athlete regardless of whether or not he stayed at Northern, but if Flora Macdonald can help prepare him better academically for the next level, then this will be a good move for him.

I think this is going to be a good For him.. He is a nice basketball player!

Tucker is the second notable 2013 player to leave the state — Flint Northern’s Richie Lewis transferred to Flora MacDonald Academy in Virginia. [...]
