Grand Rapids native Kyle Visser signs with pro team in Italy
August 2, 2012 in Professional
Former Forest Hills Central and Wake Forest graduate Kyle Visser has spent the last five years of his pro career playing in Germany. Steve Kaminski of MLive reports that Visser has signed with Juvecaserta in Italy’s top league. Here’s Visser’s reasoning for the move:
“I’m newly married, and we are just looking for a new adventure,” Visser said. “I feel that it is a great career move, and I thought I would take a chance and see how it all pans out. I enjoyed my time in Germany; it felt like home. But I’m looking forward to seeing a new culture, and it’s hard to pass up Southern Italy.”
That’s a great comment by Visser, and honestly, gets at the reason I try and write so much about players playing overseas so much on this site. Yes, the NBA is great and every basketball player would love to get that far. But for players who don’t quite make it, what could be better than getting paid to play basketball and see beautiful parts of the world at the same time?
