Former Central Michigan star David Webber to be inducted into Hall of Fame
July 30, 2012 in Division I
David Webber, a star guard at Detroit Country Day and Central Michigan, will be inducted into CMU’s Hall of Fame, the school announced. Hugh Bernreuter of the Saginaw News has the story:
Webber was named the MAC Player of the Year after leading the men’s basketball team to the 2001 conference title. He ranks third in career points (1,774), fifth in 3-pointers (183) and 10th in scoring average (16.3). he set a Rose Arena record with 51 points against Ball State in 2000. He attended training camp with the NBA’s Sacramento Kings before playing professionally in the Continental Basketball Association and International Basketball League.
If some key words in that text — ‘Webber,’ ‘Country Day,’ ‘Sacramento Kings’ — are setting off alarm bells, it’s because David is the younger bother of former NBA star Chris Webber. C-Webb had a fantastic pro career, but David carved out his own niche. He was a great player in the MAC and had some professional success as well. The induction ceremony will be Oct. 26 in Mount Pleasant.
